With Dad's passing, it's now up to me to mow. I have 4-5 acres of grass to mow for mom a hours drive away from my house. Mom and dad would mow the grass with two 42" Poulans. It would take them roughly 12 hours combined time. The wife and I mowed with the 2 Cub 1811's a 44c and 50c. It took 6-8 hours. The next weekend I mowed with the 1811 50c. Everybody fished and rode four-wheelers and I mowed. Not any fun for me, something had to change.
Found me a 2001 61" 25hp Scag turf tiger. First time out I mowed the yard in 2.4 hours. The next time out my son-in-law mowed with the 1811 44c and me on the Scag knocked it out in 2 hours. I can live with that. I hope to mow during the week after work and leave the weekend for other things. Don't worry no Cub's are being sold to pay for the Scag. |

That is a LOT of grass you are cutting. Dad and I had the discussion about taking forever to mow grass a few years back. He mows everything around the farm and my house. Problem was every mower he had, which was several was old and slow, real slow. It was nothing to come home from work to find 3 broke lawnmowers in the shop. One of his customers brought in a 2072 for us to get running so he could sell it--it never left. He wasn't happy about me buying it but nothing he could really say. I went through the deck and driveline replacing anything that looked worn. Now he loves that machine. I've pretty much laid the law down to stop mowing at my house as I have a teenager that needs the experience. I also picked up a 982. Now 2 of us can get out there with a pair of 60" decks and knock out our yards in short order. Glad to see you realized time is more important than grass and bought something to give you more time

Congrates on the new mower. The turf tiger is hard to beat. I work with a man and his wife runs 3 mowing crews. There best mower is the Turf tiger.

Glad no Cubs were harmed in your change of mowers.
That's too much grass for a tractor. You are not a traitor since you kept yours. ![]()

I'm not about to call you a traitor, I just spent 2 hours on my BX with the Grassanator compared to 6 hours on the 1641 mowing 16" tall grass. 12' at a pass compared to 4' now I'm enjoying a cocktail.

Your no traitor, with that much grass to mow! Mans gotta do what he has to in order to get the job done! It takes me a couple hrs or so to mow what we have. I've used a zero turn and they are faster.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
