Default Mower deck 441 U-1111
Hello all. First post. I have a 441 U-1111 deck. The center spindle had a lot of slop in it, so I took it apart expecting to find a bad bearing/spindle shaft. They seemed to be in good shape, but for some reason, there's a ton of play between the spindle housing and spindle housing cap. The spindle shaft sticks out past the housing a bit and this doesn't allow the cap to tighten against it. This space allows for the play. I feel like it might be missing some kind of spacer or seal to keep grim from getting up into the bearing/housing. I've included some pictures, one shows all the spindle parts in the order it came apart. Thanks for any help!!

From here it looks as if the spindle cup is worn quite a bit. It is what keeps the crud out of the spindle.

Go to the parts lookup and it will show you the order of the parts assembly. The cups are still available, I think about $10 each or so. There should be a friction washer between the cup and the blade also, then the big flat washer and the nut on the grass side of the blade.

The spindle in your pics. looks like one from a 48in. deck .I say that because of the spacerblock on the shaft and both pulleys being the same size.

Thanks for the replies. I'll pull the other spindles apart and see what they look like. Maybe they're built the same? Maybe I can add some washers or something to take up some of that slack in the housing. The deck itself is pretty beat up and not worth a full on rebuild. Those spindles are expensive! I'll be happy if I can just get it functioning properly. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again!

I stand corrected Mcamp, this is a 48" deck. The correct part number is 483 u1111. Dues anyone know where I can get an exploded view of the center spindle? Thanks!

The "cup" directly below the stamped housing does not fit tight against the housing, it turns with the shaft and blade. Until the blade is tightened the cup will be loose on the shaft, after the blade is tight the cup should be tight also, but still not tight against the housing.

There may be an exploded view in the tech section in a pdf along with other decks and spindles.
