Ok,
I've got a bit of play in my steering and I was thinking on tightening this up a bit. My axle is black, the steering spindles are white paint. This seems a bit odd as everything else is white and yellow. I was thinking of ppl using the later bolt for the axle pivot. But how about going a step further? I think I can match up a aerospace bolt- they come in oversize shanks- 1/64 or 1/32. So maybe I can clean up all 3 locations and drop in a AN/MS/NAS bolt? Any thoughts? I saw ppl using a grade 8 bolt, but it didn't look like the shank went fully into the front frame bushing. Michael |

The key to using a grade 8 bolt is to buy an 8" bolt so the shank is long enough to reach both bushings and once it's tightened to where you want it just cut off the extra.

Also realize that by using the bolt method your mule drive will not go on all the way and will hit the bolt head. You have to shave off at least half the bolt head for the mule to go on and be able to lock the QD linkage.

Yep. Went through that myself. Bolt makes life easier but if it's a mower its a pita.

i just take a piece of 3/4" round bar,(i like stainless personally) fry a heavy washer on one end, mill down the grease channel either with a grinder or lathe and then re drill the hole where it goes....this is after i put a clamp on the channel to get it tight first...tight enough that theres NO slop but axle can still pivot, even with a little effort...works great, clears oil pan, looks stock and wont ever loosen again...

Yes,
I'm going to use this as a mower. I've got acess to a lathe. Maybe a 82 series bolt will fit the best? M |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
