When I got this tractor, there had been a push button added to engage the starter solenoid, assuming because the keyed switch had gone bad. When I got it home it wouldn't start. I had to add a new push button switch, the old one smelled of fried electrical. Now the new push button switch has gone bad. I want to replace the keyed IGN switch, but not if I keep burning them up. What should I look for? Possibly the solenoid wrong size I pulling too many amps & burning up the switch? Any other thoughts to check?

Since you give us NO information on this MC Push Button switch, nor how it is wired, my suggestion to you is that to put the Wiring back to original as when it rolled out of the factory. Get the correct Ignition Switch and Starter Solenoid and wire it up per the diagram.

Solenoids don't pull diddly squat for amps. You should be able to tell just by looking if it's the right one. Like Roland said, replace the ignition switch. Check the wiring for shorts. Easy peezy.

Was just thinking something isnt right if it has burnt up the keyed IGN switch, & at least two push button switches that I know of.

Just curious, The fuse on the pedestal is supposed to protect the wiring harness against over current and should be a 20 Amp, slow blow fuse. Is that what is installed?

well I figured out why the push button keeps blowing, it was wired up between the two big posts of the solenoid. So all power being pulled by the starter was going through the push button switch. It wasnt wired to activate the magnetic coil. So I thought the solenoid was bad. Nope, checked it, its good. Then turned to the original switch, thinking it was bad, so I got a new one. It didnt work either. I'm not getting 12v to the coil circuit of the solenoid from the starter switch. short in the wire somewhere I guess, so I gotta trace through. Ugh.

You could have a defective component or a wiring issue in that circuit. It is similar to this...

Found the culprit. The arm that activates the neutral switch is broke. I have a parts tractor with one on it, but how do I get it off.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
