I took an 1872 that had been rolled and found a 1810 and swapped the best parts onto the Super.It also had the classic broken hydro case so I put in a unit from an 782 to get it up and running.The steering seemed kinda stiff but did work ,I did'nt have any attachments so never got to test the hydro lift.Fast forward a few months and I found another 1872 I swapped in the rear and hooked up a 60'' haban mower deck.Here's my problem the steering is still stiff, and the hydro lift hardly moves but it runs and drives fine. With no load on the lift cylinder if will go in and out but very slow and the steering moves freely if unhooked from the power steering ram.Could there be a problem in the power steering unit ? and could that also cause the problem with the lift? The lift did work on the tractor I took the rear from .I changed the lift cylinder and the controll block with no change.I keep comming back to the steering box. I'm thinking the rear is ok because it drives fine or could it still be the problem would the wrong hydro filter cause it? . Any thoughts or ideas? Sorry so long Thanks, Bob

Are you sure you don't have the lines crossed at the steering valve? Do you have a manual to confirm?

You know. I looked at that and put them on the way they came off but they might have been wrong all along.Thanks again for the help I will update and let you all know.

Bob each port is marked on the bottom of the valve. It's also possible that the valve has been turned in the mount and the ports are off from where they should be thus it appears to be right and may not be.
Sounds from what you describe as a flow problem and not a pressure problem. Scott |

I also agree with scott that it sounds like some lines are crossed somewhere.

When I had my power steering rebuilt, the guy had two lines crossed. It took two hands to turn the steering wheel, unless you were moving.
It only took him two days to figure out the problem. ![]() |

Thanks Scott and all who answered, that was it! the two lines right from the pump were crossed on the steering unit.Took about 5 minutes to swap them and now I have ''real'' power steering and that big mower deck flys up and down.Still have other minor stuff to sort out but getting this working is great.
