Default Tell me something good --- Spindles need replacing

I've got a couple of noisy spindles. These are the two outside spindles that the short blades operate on. I believe I have a 42 inch deck, although the plate is missing and I'm guessing based on blade lengths. I need to either get these repaired or replaced, depending on if they are the rebuildable type or not. Can someone dentify these and advise me what I have?

Those are rebuildable. remove the bolt in the center of the pulley and the pulley will come off, once the pulley is off you remove the key and then the shaft will slide out the bottom. Depending on rust it might be a pita but they're easy to work on.

Those are the rebuildable type, all spindles on that deck are the same, only the pulleys are different. Those look like 48" spindles, any way you can take a pic of the deck?

Sure thing. Here's the deck.

If you measure this deck on top from one side to the other, it measures 48 inches.

That's a 38" or 42" deck.

The 48" spindles have a thicker casting just above the tin cup.

Thanks for helping me to identify the deck. I really appreciate it.

Here are the parts I need:

2 spindles rebuilt or parts to do it myself
idler pulley (bearing is very noisey)
3 blades
side skid rail (still useable, but getting thin on bottom)
2 rear plastic wheels (these are about shot)
front roller (it ain't round no more)

The idler pulley bearing is replaceable if you drill out the spot welds and bolt the two halves back together with a new bearing. I found the bearing at TSC.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding a 42" cast-end deck right now. I'm no expert at CC's, but here are some things I've learned:

The bearings you need are Timken #11949, the races (cups) for these are Timken #11910. They're cheap online.

I got the seals from a vendor on this forum. Can't remember which.

The races come out somewhat easily with a 2-3 lb hammer, large punch and a vice. They go in with equal ease using the same hammer, a big socket slightly smaller in diameter than the races, and a big wood block. I heated the bearing housing with a torch so I could get the races started.

A replacement idler is available at a CC dealer for $20 or so, IIRC.

I got gauge wheel replacements at the local farm store. They're much better quality than the broken ones I removed, with ball bearings & steel wheels.

Hope this helps a little, and have fun.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
