Default 122 / 126 Hybrid

My 122 is now a mix of two different machines, and some other bits thrown in. Purists should click the back browser button now - the following pictures are nothing near "original restoration" condition!

I knew the K301 from my 122 needed rebuilt, so I spent most of last winter on the engine.

When this spring came along, I decided it was time to put the engine in the chassis.

But I found that the frame was cracked, and the cross member was pretty messed up.

My 126 was bought to be a donor, but it actually looked to be in fair shape. It ended up being the donor anyway since I needed a frame, and I liked the looks of the 122 better than the 126.

The 126 gave up her soul, and quite a few other parts. I stripped her to the frame and tranny.

There are quite a few differences between the 122 and the 126, but nothing a little backyard engineering couldn't overcome...

The 122 fenders were mangled, so I bought a tandem trailer fender, "Jeep Style" from NorthernTool and cut it to fit.

Yesterday I set the engine, and today I got it mostly back together. She breathed her first breath at about noon today. After 15 minutes, I shut her down and re-torqued the head bolts (they were surprisingly a lot looser than I would have expected!) It will take some more time and effort to get all the loose ends tied up, but she did a bit of work pulling around my trailer with 5 ea 5 gallon buckets filled with water for the trees.

I'm really happy now. She's purring right along. Still as ugly as a mud fence! There are a lot of other things I've done over the last few months, but I wanted to show you my end result. Hope you enjoyed the ride!

Hope you all had a great weekend! I sure did!

I have a 107 that's in pieces, mostly there, but a few missing parts. If I don't resurrect it, I thought about putting the fender deck from it on either my 122 or my 123, maybe one of my 104s.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
