At least I think for now it's resolved. Inside the starter generator under the a terminal, the wire was still attached, however it was slightly touching a piece of metal that was fastened to the shell of the SG. Perhaps there was enough distance on it between that wire and metal for it to start sometimes and other times it was too close and arked? I have no idea. At any rate, I put it back together, tested, it spun. Mounted back on - started right up. We will see.
The only question I have is that when the S/G was removed from the tractor and after I re positioned and fastened wire under the A terminal, I tested the F terminal as well. (Got it spinning and then put power to the F terminal. It did not brake quickly as described in a you tube video I saw. Does this really matter or no? I'm just happy it runs and won't be shoveling again during the next storm! (knock on wood). And again thanks to everyone who offered their help both on the thread and in e-mail. |

Checking the S/G to see if it will charge, is done by grounding the "A" terminal while the S/G is turning.
Glad to hear that it's working, I hope that cured the problem.

IF...you have any doubts about the S/G, by all means take it to a reputable Repair Shop and have it gone through. It will be money and head-ache wise, well worth it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
