Default STIHL Chainsaws
Hi all, well besides Cubs I have been into collecting the older STIHL chainsaws for quite awhile. I have as far back as an 08 for those of you that are familiar with these. I was just curious if any of you guys here on the forum have any you would be willing to part with or know someone who does? If so please send me a PM with what you have. Also condition is not important non running saws are fine also. Thanks for looking!

#10-149 with a 38inch deck.

I've got an 08S, but its part of my saw collection. I've got an 041AV I just rebuilt, wonderful saw. Dad has an 051, talk about a beast! I ran it for about 3-4 minutes Saturday. The engine was blown so it had to be completely rebuilt back in the early 90s' (fortunately with genuine parts). It hasn't had 10 tanks of fuel through it since. The really old Stihls like you have and older are very hard to find around here. I always wanted a 2-man Stihl, never saw one except in pictures. Homelites, Mac's, David Bradleys, Poulans, Mall, all are fairly easy to find here.

I will have to take some more pictures. Here is one of an 041AV I recently fixed up and painted. Bought a bench top Sandblasting cabinet to do the parts with. Worked pretty well.

My local Stihl shop ordered me the paint in rattle cans. $5.99 a can which is cheaper than Rustoleum. I was pretty surprised being it is Stihl paint.

Yours looks a LOT nicer than mine. I robbed parts from 2 others to make mine as solid as possible. All 3 came from a loggers estate sale. I think I fixed up the newest one and it has to be 35-40 years old. The oldest was a red and white, none of the 3 are exactly alike. I used it for years and finally the crank seal went. Thought it was the carb, rebuilt it and chased to problem to crank seal. Lots of sawdust got past it so I ordered aftermarket rebuild kit for it. Back in business! I will say a service manual really helped with the overhaul! I think the only screws left were the bar studs.

Thank you! Yeah I noticed they made some of the same model saws for years such as the 041 Farm Boss for instance (have 2 of those) don't want to run those after operating one with AV! I too had a saw that I thought was the carb. and was actually crank seal...seems to be a relatively common problem. Many many parts to a saw the first one I tore apart I thought I would never get it back together.

So are you just collecting Stihl? If you ever get a chance to run an 051, do it! It about takes 2 guys to crank it, as you know the old saws didn't have provision to get your foot in the handle to hold it down.

Yeah just stihl saws. I have never ran on 051 but I know where there is one for sale that I might get. Only problem is the recoil side has a real ugly repair on it. Not sure what's going on there yet but I'm sure I could find a new cover.
