Default Shifter

Hello, I have a 1967 Cub Cadet model 72 with a standard 3 speed transmssion. Something broke in the shifter, it moves from side to side now, I can still shift it if I keep the shifter heading forward, I think I broke a pin or something like that. Has anyone run arcoss this before, I have'nt pull the shifter off the transmission yet to see whats in there and where might I get a new pin if it did break one? Thanks, Dan

Welcome to the Only Cub Cadets site! Sounds like it could have something to do with the shifter fork? Someone will come along who can help. I have found Folks here know their cub cadet tractors, are friendly, and are great to get to know! thanks, John cub 7172

From the main page go to the "Technical Library". About 2/3's down the page you will see a 3 part post for "Gear Shift Repair". Pretty simple fix, I fixed the shifter on my 70 last year. That should be all you need to get it fixed!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
