![]() This weeks submission is sent to us by local member ccguy aka Ken from Massachusetts. Ken comments "Although surrounded by green machine owners in my neighborhood (and always getting the needle), my grandfather in KS was a farmer and a Farmall guy (used a 127 at home) working 1 ½ sections of flat, fertile soil for red winter wheat, milo and corn in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. There’s nothing like working a Cub that you brought back to life, with it’s huge frame and genuine tractor drivetrain. This was a non-starting, retired, rust-covered, 1988 built 1811 with 635 hours and 1½ inches of packed mud/grease under the dash with dried mud encasing the hydro pump and transmission housing. No brakes. Rotted out fender support. Safety switches /electrical components, shot. Fender dented up. No deck, no mule drive. Abused sheet metal.
A big thank you to all OCC members who mentored me through this 8-month odyssey. Special thanks to yeeter, Sam Mac, J-Mech, R Bedell, Terry C, jaynjeep, inspectorudy, IHCadetCollector, Maple-Hunter, Joe from CT and Messicks. You guys rock!" Thanks for the submission Ken!!! Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
