Default 1641 charging issue?

The amp light on my tractor comes on whenever I engage the PTO. Also comes on intermittently while driving without the PTO engaged.

New battery.

Should I suspect the charging system or a short? Something else?

Thanks.

I would suggest to put your volt meter on the battery and check voltage @ idle and full throttle which should tell you the status of your charging system.
With engine off you should have about 12.6 V if fully charged battery and it has been sitting a day, as the rpm's increase it should put out a max of about 14V or so.
Switching on a load as in headlights or PTO voltage will drop but should still stay above about 12.5
This is general for most charging systems.

The voltage light is a very common issue. As George suggested check it with a meter and if it's OK take the bulb out of the indicator. I replace the lights on my tractors with gauges.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
