Default Late Model "O" History Questions

I saw a CL add the other day where the seller advertised an O as a 70 Cub Cadet. In the add he said it was a 63. This kinda peaked my interest so I did a search for 70 Cubs and found a couple of photos of O's with 70 decals on them. Did International actually call late model O's 70's for a while?

I also found where someone claimed that they had a late model O that had a factory front mounted PTO on the engine. This O also had the wedge style mower deck and had a mule drive like you would see on the 70. It was claimed in the article that this was in response that the square mower deck was unsafe and International offered this as a kit to modify O's with the square deck. Anyone heard of this?

I found a post in another forum where the owner of the O claimed that his O had factory head lights located in the grill like later Cubs. Is this true?

I have an O and it is in a lot of pieces right now. I'm sand blasting the parts and repainting everything. I'm not doing a factory restoration. I'm putting wide tires on it front and back...tri ribs on the front and ags on the back. I'm putting an amp gauge and a hour meter in the dash as well. I have considered the grill headlights as well as the PTO and wedge mower deck.

I'm wanting to do tasteful modifications. I'm sorta wanting to modernize the O. I'm wanting to add a combination of later model Cub with old so please don't build a hanging gallows with my name on it.

As time goes on you might see an O with a magnum engine on it with the heads sticking out both sides. Who knows? Bottom line is it will be painted and shinny once again. When I first brought it home my daughter said that she needed her tetanus booster just to sit on it. This truly a project with heart.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
