New here, looking for some input. My garden keeps expanding(two 75x100 beds right now and more to come if can work it with a machine). I'm wanting to start working it with a garden tractor. I would also like to be able to use a back blade or box blade for some minor leveling work.
I have a Cub Cadet LT1050. I know I can buy an electric sleeve hitch for it. I also believe I can adapt an MTD manual hitch to fit it. Worst case scenario, I can build one from scratch. My main uses would be; bottom plow, disk, cultivator and blade. Would my Cub be sufficient for this work or would I be better off to buy a true Cub garden tractor? I would like to be able to use the same machine for mowing and gardening. Thanks for any advice |

Welcome to the forum! You would be much better off buying a garden tractor. An LT1050 is not designed for any of those implements.

No your LT is not sufficient. Yep take a look around, I'm partial to the "82"s.

The LT is exactly as it states (lawn tractor). It just isn't built for the work you are asking it to do. An older IH cub cadet would definitely do the job. You'd be much happier and it would last a lot longer. Mine is over 40 years old.

Plus, you can probably find a decent old one for the cost of a electric sleeve hitch for a new tractor.

Buy an older cub. I just got a Cub 1650 hydro and I love it. It has plenty of power to pull those types of implements. And its hydraulic lift!

Thanks for the input, guys. You all told me pretty much what I expected to hear. I have begun my search for a real Cub. Wish me luck.

Plus, a refurbished IH Cub Cadet will last 40 years doing hard labor... An LT1050 will be worn out in another 5 years just cutting grass.

Also, with patience you should be able to find a good tractor and attachments for a bit less than a new LT. It will last longer, be easier to work on, and give you a lot more enjoyment.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
