Hello all,
I just got my first gear drive today, it's a 128 with hi/low range. It will need some work, because it was sitting for 5 years but it started right up. The p/o put a nut and bolt in place of the fiber button and destroyed the PTO but that can be fixed. I need to pull some mice nest out of the engine tin. I will learn more as I get into more. It has new turf tires on the rear, so in all for $150, I felt that I stole it. I thought you all were just joking about the yellow fever but now this is my 3 tractor. ![]() Here are some pictures - http://s877.photobucket.com/user/userrod/slideshow/ |

That IS a nice looking 128, creeper gear and all, yeah, you stole it. Good job.
And YES, Yellow Fever is a real thing, you will find that it is much easier to live with if "The Wife" catches it too.

hello all
I have stated to work on the 128 and found out is missing some items already. I just have to show you all about that mice nest I told you all about. Now I have not pulled the head I'm still cleaning the jug,But I have a question for you all. Do I or should I replace the crank bearing and front seal while the engine is out? ![]() ![]() |

You can replace the front seal if you want, but the crankshaft bearings are very sturdy and I've never had to replace one. As long as it wasn't run w/o oil, they should be fine.
That's a fine mouse nest. If run more than a few minutes with the cooling fins plugged up like that, it will over heat quickly, possibly causing damage including warping the head or scoring the cylinder.

I'm going to say that if I had my pick I would pick mice before rats although nice do make a mess, because oh my word I've seen some serious carnage caused by rats on equipment. They will eat and destroy interiors, wire harnesses, you name it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
