Default smoken cub

I just got a cub 129 that smokes after it runs for a short while. It smokes so bad it fowls the spark plug in no time. It still has plenty of compression to run but i noticed what looks like oil coming from underneath the head gasket. Thier isnt much blow by coming from the dipstick tube while it runs. I hope its not a hole in the piston. Any guesses on what might have happened to it?

It can be one of 2 things.
The crankcase breather is plug or installed the wrong way. There is a drain inside the breather housing that needs to be pointing down.
The other possible problem is the rings are shot. If that is the case you will need a new piston and rings. The best you can do do is rebuild the motor if the rings are shot.

A Kohler Service Manual will show you which way the breather goes and has a good section on how to rebuild a motor. Pay close attention on hoe to measure the cylinder bore.

The motor will not run if there was a hole in the piston.

If you've got oil coming out from under the head, you've got a blown head gasket. Fix that first and see if you still have a problem.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
