While replacing the hydro filter I think I messed up the threads on the filter or the filter had bad threads to start with. Fortunately I had a spare filter handy which spun on the nipple without a problem. I would like to repair the threads on the unused filter which I think could be done with a piece of threaded steel pipe from a hardware store. Does anyone know what the thread size is? I'm estimating 3/8" something. The parts list says the nipple is IH-394868-R1 (now SU-3101069) but doesn't state the thread size.

If I boggled up the threads on my new filter, I'll chunk it into the garbage! Not willing to take chances introducing metal particles into the system.

Bingo we have a winner. Take the filter back to who ever you bought it from and have them give you a replacement.

The size appears to be proprietary as it is neither 3/8" (too small) or 1/2" (too big). I would return the filter, but about five years ago I bought several on-line from a sponsor of one of the various Cub Cadet forums and I'm not sure where it came from without sorting through old receipts. I'll save the filter and next time I do a filter change I'll remove the nipple and see if I can make it work without creating slivers of steel.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
