I just got a 147 today. I was told by the PO and a neighbor who worked on it, that the hydro didn't work. I see a lot on here that most just need new fluid and a filter. I checked it, input shaft spins, release buttons stuck but that's from it sitting. I believe they were free at the time. So, do I need to swap the rear or should I just do fluid and filter. Also the neighbor said it would move a little when he worked on it

If it were me, a fluid and filter change would be my first move. Once you get the back cover off, you then will have an idea of what you may be dealing with by the condition of the fluid and internal cleanliness. When you started it, did you try and see if it moved? Did it "sound" or "feel" like it was trying?

I didn't get it running yet today I focused on getting the 129 running that I also got with it, I'm just going off of what I heard and saw. The hydro's never go bad often, right? Also I discovered that the cooling fan is missing on the 129, will it be ok if I clean off the hydrostat and use it while I get a fan. I'm not mowing with it

Not anymore. That's for sure and because I just have to do that, I have an extra working rear end that I don't have to put in it anymore

Since it was so full of gel, will I somehow have to clean the pump or will just cleaning the sump and line be fine. The filter should have caught that...right? But it was full of gel too

Clean the rear out with diesel fuel or kerosene, clean the tube, install a new filter and fill it with cheap hydraulic oil or some cheap 30wt. Run it a while, then drain it and change the filter again. Put whatever oil in it you want the second time around.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
