Working on a Cub 70 with K161 engine. Need to find the original bore size so I can search for replacement piston and ring set. It is the small bore type. Thanks,Jim.

No one sells part for that smaller bore anymore so you'll have to get a standard piston for the larger bore and have it machined out.

IIRR as it has been a while since they were new, they were 2.875 for the small bore and 2.938 on the large bore.
But somebody might still have some NOS small bore stuff around. |

Thank you both for the info. Machine shop wants $285.00 to bore out. More than the owner wants to spend. My search continues. Jim.

Why not a cylinder hone and DIY? Is this type stuff still done? Not that much to take out.
Been a few years since I've had any machine work done but that seems like that shop does not want to do the job at that price.

A cylinder hone will not straighten up the bore, if the cylinder is egg shaped then it will still be egg shaped when your done.

Guess I misspoke, err mis typed. I had in mind a cylinder grinder such as these two. The picture is one my dad had and I've seen more than one bad cylinder brought back to useful life using it. The link is to a current version by Lisle. http://www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com...ampaign=bingPA Edit: One of these in a drill press and a small engine can be done quite easily.

Well at $285 for one hole this shop should be charging $2280 to do a V-8. I don't think they want your business. Just my 2 cents.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
