Default 14 hp Kohler S/G

Will a 14hp Kohler that was on a narrow frame fit my wide frame? The motor looks identical only for the s/g bracket. Can I take the bracket off, change the shroud and put my starter on it or am I just wasting my time? Thanks in advance

They are the same for a WIDE FRAME, but NOT a QUIET LINE.

I believe the QL does not have a starter generator. It has a the kind of charging system you would see now on a late model tractor. The starter itself is bolted to the block so thats what would make the big differences. There are probably others as well.Im no expert on the quiet lines but thats why they wont interchange without a lot more work.

I can't speak for ALL W/F, N/F engines, just the ones that I have or have had. To the best of my knowledge none that I have ever owned are/were drilled for the electric PTO and most motors from narrow frame tractors do not have holes to bolt on the Q/L style gear drive starter.

There are also a lot of other issues with "bolt on" parts like the bearing plates, flywheels and shrouds that vary between the engines. Many of these things are easy enough to correct and others can be more of a PITA than they are worth.

i know of a guy that has some kohler blocks. A block is all i really need because i have another k321 that was out of a wheel horse or jd. i could find a block that would work and i could just do a transplant on the "innards" from the one i have and it would work right?

I took a quietline out of a 1250 and put it in a 122, narrow frame, but by the time all was said and done all I used was the bare block, head, and everything attached to the crank. As long as you have the correct oil pan ( A wide base block like would be found on a leaf blower or Economy tractor may or may not be adaptable..) I had to change all externals including flywheel, bearing plate, and all sheet metal. Went from an externally mounted starter and a flywheel magneto charging system to a starter generator.....

thats what i plan to do as well. I have a kohler k321 that came with the tractor but it was put in by the po and its not the correct engine. the block has mounting tabs on it and he cut the engine cradle to make it fit. i was wondering what i needed to look for on the block to know if it is a correct fit for my cub. also i was wondering if i took all the stuff off the one i had now and put it on a block that was correct if it would work. all k321's are the same internally, the only difference is the block and the shroud correct?

Gotta watch out for correct holes for the starter generator and electric PTO if your tractor has electric PTO. Also if you go for a non CC engine doublecheck the crank snout for length and diameter...

...My engine was originally out of a John Deere before it was installed in the 1250 and it had been cobbled for the electric PTO. When installed on the 122, I had to cobble the S/G arm as the hole needed for it was not there, and I could not install a PTO as the crank was too long and hit the PTO button without a PTO even installed.

Also if you have a wide base pan, you may still be able to install the correct pan, depending on the individual casting.. do google search for Kohler oil pan modification and you may find the site that talks about it .. I don't have the link here..

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
