So was able to nab this today. Has a bad engine, and as luck would have it I have the one out of my 2072 ready to drop in. Plastic is not real old according to Larry, but a nephew bumped something a snapped a mount. Lister plow and a homemade carryall are in the truck :-)

The machine is in pretty good shape. I hope to swap in an engine this weekend and get it running. Basics are all good, tires have air, seat is ok, and everything moves so far. My son sat on it and decided he would like to keep his 782.
![]() Starting to like that looks of it. Might be painful to let it go... |

The old story, "Look what followed me home!"
Does that excuse work today? The Ms. doesn't believe me anymore.

Looking closer there is a fair amount to do to this thing. But still a good buy :-) Plastic looks good on the outside, but I think every mount is broken or cracked. Quite a bit of wear and the PO was not the best with how to do maintenance. Quite a number of not so special fixes. Hyd valve is frozen so must have sat for a while longer than he led to believe. Will take some repair to make it right. Rolled it in the garage and pulled the motor. Big hole in the block. Pic later.
Read up on the Haban decks. (Thanks Sam, you have posted fantastic info) So this one has a few cracks and the rear support is bent requires one of the SamMac mods. Sad the rear tires were pushing the deck enough to cause major wear. |

Feel your pain. The 1862 I just bought has a bunch of broken plastic mounts also. Pretty poor design.

I think I am going to try and counterbore the side panel where I have a broken mount. Then use a rubber expansion nut and bolt it up. I will let you know how it works.
No time this weekend tho. Too much grass to cut before it rains again |

I've used hanger bolts, glued and with a flat washer in the panel.
Only needed 'em on the top "thingys", ugh. Another flat washer and wing nut when the panel is in place.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
