hey guys
I think I found a pretty good deal on a 2072 that I'm going to check out tomorrow. I'm just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the 2072. I never had any dealings with a super before. I have a 1810 which I'm very happy with. From looking at pictures, it looks to me like a beefed up 1810 or 1811. It looks like a solid piece to me. Any opinions would be appreciated. thanks |

It's mostly the same as an 1811 with a longer frame. I think it may have lower reduction gearing? Power steering is nice and bigger tires too.

Good tractor, check the rear end for loose or broken bolts and check for leaks.

Great machine, mine has a 60" Haban under it, it could be set up better (not enough ground clearance with the deck raised, the rear is a little light with the deck down in mowing position). It has plenty of power for mowing. No issues with it that you don't find on every other 25 year old Cadet.

I absolutely love mine. They also have front hydraulic ports. Yes, they have the normal problems that you may or may not have experienced with your 1810. Yes they have lower gears, but they also have larger tires. You will really want a set of rearend braces from Xtreme Mortorworks to stiffen up the frame. I've been using mine for the last couple weeks pulling trees I've cut down, pushing brush up into piles and removing some wild roses the easy way. This was with turf tires and about 150# of added weight on the rear. I really couldn't be much happier with mine.

I honestly can't think of anything specific to that series tractor we had to do to mine. I rebuilt the entire driveline, put on a key switch, added a fuel cap with a gauge, and replaced something fairly inexpensive that was allowing oil to get in the air cleaner (maybe it was a reed valve?). I've got new ball joints for the tie rods I need to put on and the PTO needs a bearing replaced, and a set of front wheel bearings too. Oh yeah, forgot I had to replace the springs and one of the plates for the hydro. But like I said earlier, normal stuff for any Cadet, or any lawnmower for that matter.
I did a fair amount of work on the 60" deck, but it was just normal wear and tear items along with tearing it down for repaint. I would pay special attention to the frame and rear end if yours has been used for anything other than mowing grass (mine has always been a dedicated grass machine). Being the biggest of the big ones, you never know if a previous owner was treating it like a bulldozer, either because it was all he had to work with or just because he could and thought he should.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
