Got this 149 this week. Owner said it didn't run,and didn't want to mess with it. I took the carb off, took it apart, and soaked it in gas overnight. Put it back together, and it fired right up. After a few adjustments, it idled real nice. The brakes don't work, and the hydraulics and steering are sloppy. I need to find an owners manual so I can learn more about this New Cub. Other than the numbers how close is this tractor to a 147 as I have one of those also.

the technical library has both the Operator Manual and Service Manual for the 1x8/1x9 tractors.

Thanks for the links to the manuals. I had looked in the tech library, but dildn't know what the (1x8/1x9 tractors) designations were. The 149 that I just got creeps at idle, and the brakes don't work. The release lever doesn't affect anything when it is moved. Looks like there's alot of reading in these manuals. thanks again. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
