Deck question..
The 42" deck on my 3184 has a broken spring retainer 'nub'. You know on the tensioner pulley there's a spring that wraps around the shaft and it's secured to the deck by a retainer piece. Well in trying to remove tension in order to remove the belt the part of the retainer closest to the deck snapped off.
So I'm left with this nubbin barely poking out of the top of the deck, not enough to hang the retainer on to keep tension on the spring. So my thought is, I could drill out that nubbin, then also drill out the corresponding part of the retainer that is poking through the hole on the spring itself. Then bolt that 'spring hole' to the deck via grade 8 bolt. That would relieve me of having to disassemble the retainer and spring assembly and replace the retainer at a cost of about $20. I hope this makes sense as I formulated these thoughts at work based on mental pics of the deck
