Cast iron or aluminum rear?

What does it mean when someone asks if a tractor has a cast iron rear end?

On my 1811, its all aluminum (as tested with a magnet). Main housing, and axle tubes.

But on two different 782's I have seen they seemed to be cast iron (magnetic) housings, but aluminum axle tubes.

Is that normal? (I would have just said it was an anomaly but have two different tractors this way now...)

That's a normal set-up.

And, you kinda answered your own question. Some of the rears were aluminum some were cast. The axles made the switch.... um.... I don't remember in what series. CCC switched from CI to Al rears when they bought them out.

I see.... so are there any that are CI axle tubes? Or all axle tubes are Al?

the aluminum axle tubes came out during the middle to end of the quiet line run , everything before that was cast iron.

Maybe they switched to aluminum so they could sell move wheel weights?

Still, the aluminum are a great case! Though, they may not handle the abuse of a cast iron, but still far-more better than you can expect from today's products in most respects.

I like the added feature of the Hy-Tran level checker,.....!!!!
