How much does a non-original engine take away from the value?
I found a 70 for sale with a replacement Kohler engine. It's the correct model, black and has the dipstick below the carb iirc. How much does this actually take away from the collector value? If I buy it, it really wouldn't be to use much. More just to fix up and take to shows. It's a great little machine with no problems that I noticed.

I wouldn't worry about it myself, as long as it runs good that's all I care about. If your going to restore it for show you can paint the engine yellow and 99% of people wouldn't even notice.

Besides, even if it did matter to other people, what's it matter to you? It's your machine, so as long as you like it, that's what counts.

Good! His dipstick comment threw me off. My 127 has it's dipstick somewhat below the carb like he mentioned, but my 122 had its dipstick on the "passenger" side of the engine and up high near the top of the head.

My comment was based on the authorized Factory Replacement engine. Installing any basic model of Kohler (per HP range) may not keep the original value.

I thought anything above a 8 hp had a tube on the right side, newer 10 + motors on the cam cover,no cam cover on a 7hp,8hp.
maybe you have a 10hp? we need pics
