Default The Aging Fleet

I suppose these models span a few forum sections in here, and one not at all. I know I am preaching to the choir, but you have to love the older machines. They just simply work when you need them to, and they do it well. Although I have no mowers older that a 76 model, I have no doubt that if I had older ones, they would be working just as well. Here is my lineup of mowers that I consider good workers. The newest one is a 1605 (an 85 model) on the end that I bought just for the fender pan and the deck, and after removing said parts, I decided to fix the blown tranny and use it to mow. Its pretty well built for a lawn tractor. Next is the 1811, (an 89 model I think) that is my favorite to mow with. This unit has always worked good. Next is the 1200 I got recently, repaired the driveline, and motor mounts. It mows like a champ as well. Last in line, and sorry to add this to the "yellow' forums, is the Massey 1655 (a 79 model). This thing is simply a beast to mow with. I use it for the taller stuff in the pasture and other places. They will not win beauty contests, and need a little cosmetic "adjustments", but I don't care. The joy is in using them. Thanks for looking, TB

Love the Massey. My pops used to level lots for new homes and MF is the only tractor he would own. I hope to find a cool MF GT one day. Yours reminds of the big Sears FF/24, practically a SCUT.

Thanks jonjunk. The massey was repowered with an Onan P220 20HP in 1998, I think the original Onan was a B series 16HP. I bought it a year after the repower. TB

Thanks saturn, I know that snapper bought out the line, the 1655's, and 1855's (and I think the 1200 and 1400 series as well). Essentially the same thing, with a different name on it. I still see them for sale from time to time, but not around here. I would surely buy another if one came my way. TB

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
