Default Free to Float lock.

My cub 122 is missing the " free to float" lock wire. This was the little wire do- hickey on the lift handle. Does anyone know how to get one or make one. Could one be made of a metal coat hanger or similar wire. I've never seen one ,so if it must be made dimensions may help.

Thanks for the input.

That bail wire looks different than the one on my 123. I have one like that one you pictured R Bedell on my original, but on my 123 it is more rectangular in shape without the parabolic curve in the middle.....perhaps the one on my 123 was added on by a prev. owner and it was a home-made special. I always thought that it was original to my 123. I would imagine that they would all work the same.

I needed one of those about two years ago. My local Cub Cadet dealer keeps a pretty large inventory and he had five in stock. Believe it or not it was 5 or 6 dollars.

I have yet to find an old cub cadet dealer around me. I asked the one near me and all they said was some story about "when IH went under they took the rights to these parts". This never made much sense to me because the internet is full of IH cub cub cadet parts. I just have never seen this part on any parts website.

Maybe if you give me the name of this store I can look online and order one, I do not know.

I made one for my 100 using a piece of 1/8" stainless welding filler rod.

The dealer is feeding you a line of crap. Part of the deal when IH sold it's product lines off was the buyer had to keep a parts supply for the old products (in this case Cub Cadets) for 25 years after the deal was made.

I would find a different dealer.

Per the CC Specialities page, it's NLA from Cub Cadet. But, go here: http://www.cubclassics.com/cubparts.html Scrolled down to about the middle of the page - $8.00.

Ditto what Dale said.

The part number is listed above. It is NLA from Cub Cadet. You can check with our sponsors to see if they have NOS on this part.

You can also check the dealers in our Parts Resource Section for the same.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
