This came out of the bottom of the oil pan of my Onan engine in my 982. I haven't had one of these Onan's apart before. I pulled the left head off and took the piston out because of a problem I'm having with it and this piece was in it. It will only run on one cylinder. I've checked the valves and rings, tried a different coil and plug wire plus new plugs. I have set the points and cleaned the carburetor. The compression was 45 on that side and 120 on the other side with the engine hot. I adjusted the valves and it came up to 120 cold. I haven't been able to run it to warm it up. I'm going to try to fire it up again tomorrow. Just got it back together. I'm going to order points and condenser. Maybe that's the problem. The spark does look weak to me.

I'll start out the speculation. it appears to me it was a circle at one time since it has a male tab on one and a female tab on the other. anything else in the pan , grindings, non metallic material ?

Nothing else except the small piece in the first pic. No grindings or anything. The pan was clean as new.

Its a wire tie that's supposed to be on the frame holding tubing or wire.

I think I would check a parts manual to see it there is anything in there that looks like that before I run the engine.

Ya know..... it really does look like a cam bearing. TBH, I didn't know it had one, but the parts book shows it has one, on the front only.

I've never been inside an Onan but I'm going with a bearing also. I wouldn't run it until you find out where that came from or you may end up destroying it.
This is a good thread on Onan engines on My Tractor Forum http://www.mytractorforum.com/showth...ne+cam+bearing This is the guy that wrote it http://www.onanparts.com/

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
