Was mowing with the 147 and hit a stick today enough to stop the mower. Not sure if the pto was spinning or not because I noticed it and shut the pto off quick. Once the stick came out everything worked ok again.
I had issues with the pto slipping in the past and have rebuilt it with the gauge and have put lock thread on the threads that the nuts go on on the back of the throw out levers. Once she cooled off I engaged the pto, held the mower belt and tried spinning the engine via the starter belt. It took considerable force but the pto did slip a tad bit. My question is this- even with the pto set correctly will it still slip a little with hand force? It's with noting the mower belt is tight, the pto is a mechanical one for a narrow frame (it is a nf pto) with one spring with the tabs that bend inward. Thanks

I don't think it should slip by hand force.

it shouldnt slip, when your pto in engaged is the wear button touching the pto?

Hey guys, thanks for the tips. I tried the same method again after dinner and I couldn't get it to do what I was describing earlier.

If your PTO clutch stalled a 14hp motor I'd say the clutch is probably grabbing.
It may have just been a fluke, or a slight glazing on the clutch from that overload, that you were able to slightly turn it by hand. IMHO, I wouldn't fix what doesn't appear obviously broken!

I took her out after the stick problem and ran it through some really thick grass and the engine started working harder, so I'm betting all is fine. Thanks for the replies.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
