Hydro relief valves

While I'm still in the process of splitting the frame on my recently acquired 125 I'm wondering if the picture of the hydro relief valve pins explains my tractors ability to roll even when you haven't pulled the release lever.

It looks to me like one pin (Fwd/Rev?) is partially down. On the one hand I have both forward and reverse when running, but on the other hand I can roll it with the mower turned off.

These look like the manual valves, but from what I've read I either shouldn't be able to roll it or I shouldn't be able to drive it if the relief valve is stuck open.

Any thoughts?

I was quite happy when the previous owner told me that he had had the motor rebuilt 2 years ago, had rebuilt the front PTO only the prior year and he had already replaced all the wiring with a new set. I just have to tighten up the hydro and the steering (as far as I know at the moment)

You are correct on all counts.

The stem on that valve looks as though it is down far enough that it shouldn't "go" on its own power. These valves are terribly sensitive, and (normally) if they are even down just a tiny bit, they are in bypass.

I guess we'll find out more once you get it out.

I have had cubs with stuck relief valves before. Spray them with PB Blaster and work them to free them up. Wipe off excess overspray and you should be back in action.
