In another thread about rear end swaps someone suggested I could use A CI out of a QL to an 82. I figured out that the 82 was a 982 but I did a search and read threads but I don't know what a QL is.

Not to worry, we are all ignorant about something...
Quiet Line is what you're looking for. |

Just remember if you use a cast or aluminum rear that was in a GT, you'll need to swap out the inards.

the 82 isn't just a 982, it's a entire series. The x82 "Garden Tractors" were: 482, 582, 582 special, 682, 782, 782D, 882, 982 and a 1282. Now there are several other tractors that people consider to be 82 series but they are numbered differently. The are considered to be in the same series because they are almost identical.

Never seen one,
but I thought the 582 Special was Briggs powered with a 2300 peerless transaxle, is this correct or was that just an option? |

George:
I think AJ was referring to the models within the 82 Series rather than the specific design arrangements. BUT you are correct about the 582S.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
