123 Parts
I have my 123 in pieces sandblasted and primed. Moved everything to the basement for the Michigan winter. Just completed fabricating a new wiring harness. I'm trying to assemble all the miscellaneous parts I'll need for reassembly once the weather turns and permits painting. Based on recommendations from members I 'discovered' McMaster-Carr. Great source for parts. I've decided to replace the front wheel bearings, and I remember references to the correct part # somewhere in the site. I've spent a fair amount of time looking around but can't find the info. Can anyone help? Thanks.

The basic Part Number is: RF122214. You can get this bearing open, with shields, and/or seals. The Suffix letters (ie: PP, ZZ, etc) would indicate the type closure.

I've spent a lot of time this winter in the cellar, a lot of it cleaning and painting front wheels (like about 12 of ém). I've decided that when it comes to needing new front bearings I'm going to insist in HEIM. A big percentage of the ones I've pulled have been reuseable after cleaning and regreasing. I also think I'll stick to the ones that are sealed on the outside and open on the inside - the inside of the wheel shouldn't get too much, if any, dust in it.

Do you like Heim bearings because they are better quality or are there other reasons as well? Thanks.

The ones I've found are stamped with USA. I've bought new CC bearings and they're made in Tiawan. Bugs me. The HEIMs I've found are Lord only knows how old and still serviceable. Roland stated the basic #RF12-22-14. Most of the ones I'm finding are suffixed AP. Roland also mentioned PP, ZZ, etc. Those suffixes stand for different styles, I think, such as open, sealed on one side, sealed on both sides. Maybe different applications, too. The AP's are sealed on the outside, open on the inside. Enjoy the weekend! F.
