Here's my intro. New to the forum and Cub Cadets. This past fall I bought a 1973 Cub 149 for my 10 year old gear head son, Clay. He loves all things mechanical (old cars, old tractors, heavy equipment, etc). So when this 149 became available from the widow friend of my in-laws, it seemed like a good project for him to do for 4-H. It barely runs and will need some other mechanical work to get it going again, but he's been reading up and watching all kinds of u-tube videos on cub cadets. So much that he knows way more about them than I do. We still have a lot to learn about them, so that is why we're here. There may be times when he logs on so be patient if he types a post that seems like it is written by a 10 year old...because it is! Since it is his 4-H project, I'm going to encourage him to do most of the research. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
