Anybody have any suggestions on how to install a new dash decal on a 125? Maple hunter says not to float the chrome backed decals on with soap and water. Tried to install it dry and quickly ruined it. Or any suggestions on restoring the original tin?
Im a bit lost. Any suggestions appreciated. The last one of these I did years ago I was still able to buy a new tin from IH. Now everyone just supplies a decal to go on the dash. Thanks Jay

When I redid the dash on my 129, I hit the edges with fine steel wool then masked it off and repainted the black areas. Then I cut out the sections of the decal with the lettering and placed them on the tin. It's not perfect but I knew I didn't stand a chance trying to get that giant decal on straight. Besides, doing it the way I did keeps the texture in the black areas.

Despite what they tell you, I think you CAN float the decal on. I don't see any reason NOT to. I would try it at least. What's the down side?
I do like the paint job, though, IHinIN.

I would recommend the decal over the old tin! Once you get the decal where you want it on the tin use a hair drier to carefully cook the decal into the tin. go slow and keep the heat source away from the decal so as not to melt it but close enough to get it hot. this will cause the decal to sit in the low spots on the tin and appear as though it is intact a textured decal! I did this to a friends worker 1450 resto last fall we will see how it turns out over the long haul mowing his 1/2 acre every week!

I used soapy water, cut it into 2 pieces . Did the upper smaller part first. Then then lower. I didnt use a squeegee to push the air out. Just took my time and was very careful.

Thanks guys for the replys and suggestions. Nice to have input from several people who have done it. I have a few ideas to try now...will let you know how it turns out.

I like the resto of the tin. Takes a bit longer but looks really great. I did mine with some advice from member save old iron, he has some great tips.
IHinIN I forgot how awesome yours came out, great job combining paint and decals where needed, awesome
