No engine serial number
Hello Everyone,
I recently bought a Cub Cadet 1811 which I was told was built in 89. I am getting it into working condition. Changed the stater and oil switch fixed brakes and steering. I have the engine out and checked the valve tappet clearance. All of them are out and one of the exhaust valves doesn't have any clearance. I have the kohler M18 manual and it gives me two different specs for exhaust clearance based on engine serial number. The problem is the 1811 I have is missing the engine shroud and serial number. Any way to tell what clearance I need to set? Is there another way to get the engine serial number? Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks, Jessterf

IF....you know that your 1811 was made in 1989.......and IF.....you know it is the original engine, then the Kohler Engine Serial Number will start with " 19 ", as per the M-18 Service Manual, page 1.3.

Welcome Jess, is there a mfg date sticker near the serial tag. That info will tell you when your tractor was built and if you can let us know those numbers and we can tell you what month it was made. Your tractor was near when they made the change.
