I bought my 129 a couple months ago and have been working on it as much as I can, it has had its fair share of problems (wrecked cylinder from a thrown rod, rats nest of a wiring harness, bad steering, and nasty paint job). I've put in a different motor and wiring harness along with a new solenoid and key switch and amp meter. Yesterday I finally got to hear it run but there is one little problem. I have to keep holding the key switch to the starting position to keep the motor running. If I try to start it like I normally would it will start up but not keep running. I think it may be the key switch. I have all the wires hooked up right so that seems like the most likely thing to go wrong. I just want to know what you guys think about it.

I had that problem.. Reverse the wires on the amp meter fixed mine I think... Something simple like that.. Very frustrating.. I spent hours trying to figure it out.

Sounds like it isn't wired correctly..... or you have the incorrect key switch.

Its wired right I bought a service manual off ebay and followed that. I also have the right switch because it along with the wiring harness are from cub.

The only thing left is a BAD Ignition (or key) Switch.

Take a test light and check the system, in a few minuets you will have your answer.

Positive side of coil needs to stay positive 12v after start in "run" position. Comes from "ign" terminal of keyswitch.Mr. Badgley is right on the money here, Gotta test it and see what's happening.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
