72/73 parts compatibility

Does anyone know if the 72 and 73 used the same dash tower? my 72 was rolled over long ago, and there is some slight damage noticeable to my dash tower and the cast nose piece. Not to far from me someone is selling parts of a 73, and I was wondering if their dashes were the same. I know the 72 and 73 had unique dashes not used by the other tractors in their series.

I believe the cast iron grill housing, and the dash control towers are identical between the models 72, and 73. Those parts from the model 73 will work on your 72. Buying a parts 73 sounds like a good plan, I have found out having a parts rig around is quite handy! I rather agree with you about the two models having a unique dash control tower because those were the only two model garden tractors to incorporate and share the body design. May not have been the fewest production models ever built, but still,.... .

edit: I don't know for sure what the major differences are between a model 72 and a model 73 would be. I will take a dare and say the hoods between the two models were different, the headlight panels were different, the sticker scheme were different, and on the model 73, the dash control tower was painted white. That would be my big guess on the differences between a 72 and 73. Maybe someone can enlighten the subject, .

You may want to consider buying the 73 to restore.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 73 was #4 on the rarest Cub Cadet list with only around 7400/7500 units made.

Yup, last of the classic round fender 7hp model IH Cub Cadets the 73 was! I agree, I'd restore a 73 before a 72! The Original, the model 70 and 100, the model 71, 72, and 73 were all classic round fender garden tractors ever produced by International Harvester Cub Cadet. The 73 was replaced by a new at the time, wide frame IH Cub Cadet badged model 86, which had the Kohler K181 8hp. single cylinder air cooled power plant, gear drive garden tractor.

The 72 and the 73 are both on the list, with the 86 right between them. I say, restore them both!!!

I would love to restore both! the machine up for sale is not complete, but maybe 60% there. Frame and clutch pedal, seat frame, dash tower, cast nose, upper grille panel, and strongarm lift. no motor/rear end, front axle, wheels, clutch, or steering column. everything looks very clean and unmolested! He says make an offer on any or all of the parts.

Don't seem like you could lose, if you wanted those parts! Interesting,.... ! My take on these parts is, if you can use them, get them! Could always do the dirty work to them and sell paint-ready, maybe? Hopefully there are more opinions to be had on this current situation from the group!

I believe that the only part of the dash tower that's different was the 73 has a bolt on top face. Parts look good, I would grab them. I just got one from a member here and he told me the difference. I love the 73, it's my favorite so far
