I just love my 122. What an awesome TRACTOR! It's Cub Cadet IH or bust for me now.
Too bad they don't make em' like this anymore. Quality was once a honored thing in the U.S. Now its plastic, throw it out buy another generation.

What do you mean now; quality went out in the late 80's early 90's when we became apart of the disposable generation ! So start rebuilding every thing we have , because what gets built tomorrow won't be worth the cloth a dollar bill is printed on !

IH had to spend a lot of time and money into the Quiet Line Series. Wonder if the government/tractor regulators { rivet counters } reimbursed IH at all for that expense?
As I was mentioning to Allen a while back, I feel the Original up through the end of the first series wide frame were IH's absolute best made, and best built garden tractors. I will not, however, as a Cub Cadet fan, and fan of the forum claim that the post garden tractors are any less superior. In fact, those models are very operator friendly, can achieve bigger tasks in less time, have noticeable improvements over the nf, wf, and are out right power houses!

My dad has owned a 70 since it was only about 2 years old and has a ton of implements for it. In 1993 he bought a new Cub just to mow with and he still likes the old one better I think.

Quality comes at a price people don't want to pay. There are still quality new machines available if you want to spend the money. Don't expect to get 8 thousand dollar quality for 18 hundred bucks.
Back when these IH tractors were new they wern't cheap to buy for many people.

Quote:
According to the inflation calculator, $1050 in 1973 is $5524.00 in 2013 money. A 1864 tractor which I consider the best of the best in 1995 cost about $7500. Today's money that would be about $11,500. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
