Default CC106 Replaced Clutch, Still Have Problem

Hello Everybody. Things have been going well with the 1650, but now I have added a 1969 Cub Cadet 106 to the LAGT collection. It was a one owner, well used but garage kept. I've got the 10hp Kohler running nicely, also the starter generator works as it should. The problem begins here; The small spring behind the release bearing was broken in three pieces. I replaced it and the clutch disc, but am still experiencing something slippiing with the clutch fully disengaged. I can push the clutch about halfway in and the tractor resumes motion again. I have adjusted it each way with no success.
I really need some guidance here ya'll. This is my first LAGT with this type of clutch system. My CC 1650 is a hydro, my JD 140 is a hydro, all my gear driven Wheel Horses use a belt instead of a clutch disc and pressure plate, and the other Wheel Horse is a hydro. I'm a little out of my comfort zone working on this 106. Where should I look next? and next? Thank you in advance.
Van

Congrats on the 106. Check the manuals for how to adjust the clutch. This cured my clutch issues on my 121. Everything that came with it was junk anyway. Mid West Super Cub.

Thank you Sam. I would not be surprised to have to replce the unit you are showing in the pic above. After reading of some related problems others have posted about here, I suspect there may be a problem with the spiral pins (broken perhaps) where they pin the driveshaft to the transmission. I noticed the coupling between the driveshaft and transmission input shaft is running hot to the touch, however the driveshaft and transmission case is not.
Do you have any comments on that?

Van,

I believe the small spring you replaced is called a teaser spring and it's purpose is to keep the clutch from being "grabby" if that's a word when you let out on the clutch. My 126 clutch slips some and I think I need a new clutch disk and the pressure plate dressed.

BTW - welcome to the zig zag club...

Bill

Hello, I think your setup is wrong. That small spring(teaser) should be in front of the realease bearing. Mike

According to my 102 manual here is the order of parts. Starting at the end facing the engine you should have the pinned pressure plate, then the clutch disk, the pressure plate with the slots for the pin and then the teaser spring. If your setup is not like that it should be.

Order a full replacement from Yosemite Sam (member on here). Price is less than what you can buy the parts for and it's already put together.

Most of these clutches are worn out beyond replacing one or 2 parts. Save the headaches and do it all if you can afford the $175-$250.

Thank you guys! Sorry to not be back before now but I took advantage of the labor Day Weekend and left town, the Cub Cadets, the Wheel Horses, and the John Deere for a few days. Thank you all for your responses. As soon as I get caught up from being away I will take some pics and show ya'll what I'm working on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
