Question Lapping valves CC 123

I can't find the original post, but someone cleaned up the valves on a kolher engine recently. I wonder what kind of tool is used to remove the valve keepers.
The service manual pics shows a tool but I can't find anything like that at the auto stores.

I did see three different valve spring compressors on the shelf at my local Auto Zone.

Default valve keeper

Thanks Weaverama, I welded steel prongs to a six inch c clamp to make a tool to compress the spring like in the service manual. My problem is removing the little snap ring on the end of the valvle. A flat screw driver blade might do it but then the clip would be bent and likely to fall of at the worst time.

I use a GM door hinge spring compressor to remove valves/springs.

I'm not familiar with the snap rings you refer to, did Kohler use something besides regular old valve spring keepers?

Default valve keeper

I looked at the valve remove procedure in a chilton small engine book looks the same for different engines. looks like a small piston ring holding the valve in there.

There are no snap rings holding the valves in on any K-series engine that I have seen. They are the standard tapered split keepers....you need to head over to kohlerengines.com and download the appropriate service manual...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
