149 gas dripping from carb/air cleaner
Pretty much like the title says... I've noticed since I got the tractor it's got a STRONG gas smell, took the air cleaner cover off and the pre-cleaner is soaked. I watched and after about 2 minutes there's a drip of gas coming out of the carb. Like a leaky faucet... not a steady drip, but enough that it falls out of the air cleaner cover after a few. Ideas? Suggestions?

If it were me, i would order a rebuild kit from one of the sponsors and totally go through it with new seals, gaskets and such... and shut off your gas at the float bowl when you arent using the tractor.

Do as sgirdham says.
Your problem with that tractor is a leaking needle/seat. (Also, make certain to correctly set your float height during the carburetor rebuild.) Best of luck.

The needle valve is not seating properly with the seat.
Check for dirt, bad float, stuck float, bad needle, bad seat or any combination.

Gary,
Sounds like a carb rebuild is in order. I always shut the gas off at the tank as well. Even if the carb doesn't leak. Just a habit I guess.

Here's the thing... it doesn't have a fuel shutoff or sediment bowl... I always thought those were standard???

The shut off is right there under the tank, but the handle is broke off.
No bowl on these, but there is a screen (or should be) on the shut off.

Well along with the carb rebuild I would drain the gas and install a shutoff. Might wanna take the tank off and clean it to.

Hopefully I can get started on it this weekend. I don't mind the gas smell, as the garage has smelled like a mix of hy-tran, diesel, gas for years now! But apparently the wife doesn't like getting the buzz from it! haha.
