Default Another dumb Original Cub Cadet question

after reading Roland's diagram for the wiring harness...im kind of stumped on something stupid. on his Voltage Regulator, it has 4 lugs that say F, B, G and L. on all my voltage regulators, i have either 3 lugs that say F, Bat, Gen. or the voltage regulators with 4 lugs that say F, Bat, Gen, Gnd. what is L on the diagram? im trying to figure out why my Original only has spark when the push button starter is pushed in. any help would be appreciated.

The "L" terminal is for "Load". It is for machines with extra electrical accessories such as lights.

If it only has spark when the starter button is on, you have your ign circuit goofed up. It doesn't have anything to do with the regulator.

im confused because on Roland's chart it shows that the green wire from the on off key switch goes directly to the L lug on the voltage reg....but i don't have that L lug, so where would i attach it? Batt, Gen, F, Gnd? also, it loses spark when the voltage regulator is bolted to the tower...and regains spark when unbolted and dangling. im stumped.

Check the wires on your start button.

One terminal should have a battery cable AND a small wire that goes to the "Bat" terminal on the V/R. The other terminal (on the start button) should ONLY have a wire that goes to the "A" terminal on the S/G.

If the small wire on the start button is on the wrong terminal, this would cause exactly what you describe.

Check all your grounds first then see what is really going on ! A loose ground / poor ground will drive you crazy with other issues , " back feed grounding " spark, no spark high/low or erratic voltages . Also don't forget any bonding such as motor to frame!

Woops, didn't see your last post...

You have the wrong (or a different) V/R.

Hook the green wire to the "bat" terminal and bolt the V/R back to the tower.

This should work, providing that everything else is wired as it needs to be for that regulator.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
