Bota and "new" quack digger

We bought an old J.D. model CC field cultivator (quack digger) last week and I got a chance to try it out today. SWEET!
Worked on the last three food plots and was very pleased with the performance of the old machine.
Bota didn't even know it was behind

Neat looking attachment! I farmed for 5 years in the mid 1970's, we never used an attachment like that.

I think chemicals did the job it was designed for!?



Is it for killing quack grass?

That's known as "spring harrow" around here. They do work well.

We had one on the farm when I was a youngster and grandpa would go over the fields to dig up the "quack" I remember riding on the back of the W9, but didn't know what quack was.
I used it down in the woods field after testing it in the one in the pictures and the weeds and quack grass actually were laying on top of the ground with the roots exposed. So in a long answer, yes!
I guess I just wanted to re-live some memories of my younger days in a round about way when I bought this contraption. But it does work very well.

All I ever knew them as was a quack digger, but the owners manual calls it a John Deere Van Brunt model cc field and orchard cultivator.
Jeff, around here when we hear "spring harrow" we call it a spring tooth drag

Thanks Allen, it's a neat piece of farming history, one that's pretty much been cut up for scrap iron, unfortunately
