Default My "Holy Grail" Kohler K301 Find

Well, it is not yellow, but, I know you guys like seeing surprise finds.

I went to look at a tractor at a recycling yard I had heard about. I brought it home. $250.

After tinkering with the points, the Kohler K301 runs!

The surprise was the hour meter works!

The machine only had 61.1 hours on it!

I never heard such a "young" engine before, all of my K engines have been "tired" by the time they came to me.

The tractor has brakes. I believe the brakes locked up, and the machine was just parked, for 28 years!

MAN, that is a sweet running engine.

I am going to "bring it back" to usable condition. I got a 10HP in June, and I have been really enjoying that one.

The steering brakes make this "new to me" 12HP kind of unique.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
