Default Opinions on 682 vs. 1811

I have been looking for an older Cub to use around the house. Which would be better for mowing some tall grass and the regular lawn mowing? I believe the 682 is a 1980 model. Not sure about the 1811, looks much beefier than the 682. Any thoughts or opinions are welcomed.

Thanks,
Mark

The choice here is simple. 16HP with manual lift...... or.... 18hp with hydraulic lift. Lets see.... more power, and less effort Which one would I choose....... 1811 hands down.

1811 here also. The hydraulic lift is nice!

Welcome to OCC!
The 1811 is nice because of the 18 mag and hydraulic lift but the 682 is probably IH built which is nice but I think the 1811 would be better choice for you. By the way the 682 has a 17hp Kohler if it is still factory.

As much as I'd love to cast my vote for the 682 simply because I love the old IH and red, I'd have to side with everyone else on this one: better motor and hydraulics make it the winner.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
