Default Newbie with deck belt anguish needs HELP!

Hi There, I am a new member, posting this for my Dad, who does not do internet or computers. So here's the problem:
Dad has old Cub Cadet- it says International Cub Cadet between the gauges. On the side of the beast, it says 782 Hydro (whatever that means)
When you put the hood up it says Kohler 17 series II on the round thing that might be an air filter. On the model/serial # plate it has the model # as 782 142 with the letter U after that...the plate is kind of gunked up. Dad is looking for the belt that goes under the deck, and when he goes to the parts places they tell him there is a number on the deck that they need. He's given them the model # and serial as far as he can decipher it, and we've looked for the number on the deck and cant find ANY THING on the deck (he currently has it off the tractor and we've even turned it over to see if it under the deck. can anyone guide us to finding the elusive numbers that the parts guys are asking for? We measured the deck from side to side it is 58 inches if that helps with sizing.

Can someone PLEASE help us find a part # for that belt? The grass is growing tall and Dad is getting so frustrated. If there are more questions I need to answer, just let me know. In looking around the site, I saw mention of a belt chart, but did not know where to find it.
Thank you all !

Are you looking for the drive belt that comes from the front of the engine through the mule drive to the deck? Or the deck belt?
Here are the drive belt numbers.

38" 954-3001 -21/32 X 91 11/16"

44" 954-3003-5/8 X 72"

46" 954-3042

50" 954-3003-5/8 X 72"

Here is a link to that elusive belt chart. Print it out and take it to the parts guy to see if he can help you out. It is located in our technical library section....just scroll down and look for technical library for tractors. We certainly hope that it helps your father out and we hope even more that he will grab that computer every now and then and join us on the forum! Who knows, maybe we can see a picture of that 782 sometime!! http://home.comcast.net/~dos0711/CCBELTCHART.htm

Thank you all so very much! I'll take this info to Dad and if he has more questions, I'll post them. Does anyone have any idea how old a 782 might be? He got the mower from my grandpa who'd had it in his shed for awhile. Grandpa bought it at a yard sale because he got a good deal on it and it stared, but then he didnt use it for a long time. Dad's older mower quit, so Grandpa gave him this one cause he wasnt using it. We have no idea how old it really is, but Dad did use it for from spring to recently and it worked well.

Thanks again all of you!

Default 782...

I looked on TractorData dot com and it says the 782 was built from 1979 to 1985, up to '81 made by IH and after that by MTD (after they acquired Cub).

Listing of Cub models here: http://www.tractordata.com/lawn-trac...-tractors.html

Click on the model number you want to look at from the list. Hope this helps.

Oh, and welcome to OCC!

The last year for the 782 was 1984. That model became 1711 in 1985.

If you can supply us with the Serial Number from the tag on the left side of the frame, we can narrow it down.

Also, deck sizes are determined by the "cutting" width as opposed to the over all width.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
