Default Wiring Diagram for 2284 Needed

Getting no fire to the engine at all and need to rule out all of the obvious items.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bigmozeke when my 2284 done that the key switch plug was loose. The engine would turn over but no fire. I had to take it apart and clean all the connections. I read that this is a common issue with them.

Hey Don, Will certainly check that out. This tractor does not belong to me. I am only trying to help out a friend. This thing has been sitting for over 2 years.

For right now.......the stupid thing has a bad fuel pump absolutely for sure.
When I bypass the fuel pump and gravity feed it from another fuel tank and line set up.......still no fuel into the carb at all.

In the Kohler manual it states that if you do not ground the other plug when testing one for a spark that it will cause damage. I actually did not test the spark myself as I had never gotten around to finding my little tester, but the owner had told me that he and his uncle had already confirmed that there is no spark the old fashioned way, so I am expecting the worst.

Now this is unbelievable, I saw a bolt sticking out of the front of the tractor at the belt lock tensioner to hold the tensioner locked......THEY HAVE A 98 INCH BELT ON THE PTO DRIVE BELT!!!!!! Should be a 114 inch for the 60 inch deck. So, needless to say that has to be fixed.

Kind of worried about how deep I am getting into this thing...keep thinking no good deed goes unpunished. Hopefully this does not go sideways on me.

Will take plenty of pics after I dig into this thing on Saturday if it does not rain on me. He may be selling this thing after it is fixed as he needs the money, but he also had the idea that this thing is gold plated and should bring 2-3 thousand parted out..........LOL

Those tractors have a fuel cut off solenoid and if you are having electrical issues it will stay closed and no fuel will enter the carb. You can use an aftermarket fuel pump and it will work fine thats what I did on mine. I would thoroughly test the solenoid and the pump first. I know this because I spent about two months getting mine lined out. All my issues traced back to a loose key switch and one bad coil after I had replaced many other parts. I think your friend is WAY over on his value estimate of the tractor parted out or whole.

Got some questions:

If you bypassed the pump, and gravity fed the carb, and it still gets no fuel.... how did you come to the conclusion that the pump is bad? .... You bypassed it and it still doesn't get fuel? Did I miss something? Or mis-understand? .....

I would agree.... but I don't under stand how even a longer bolt would get a belt that is short by 16" to work..... it should have been 8" from the pulley... no matter... the math just bothered me.

Hey Jonathan, did not post each detail, but I checked the fuel pump properly by first making sure that there was ample supply coming in unrestricted and then added a fuel line to the output of the pump and into the old coffee can and NADA,,,,,nuthin'.
I know that the belt thing sounds impossible, but I have the pictures to prove it. Just emailed them from my phone will post them up in a few minutes.

Pics of the short belt and the bolt "holder upper"....LOL

Not sure if you can see in this pic but it is absolutely positively a 98inch belt on there...the owner confirmed and told me that it was "a little tough" getting it on there.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
