Rebuilt 42" Cast Iron Deck Spindle
Rebuilt the center spindle of my Model 100's deck. The bearings were loose. The seals were not shot, but almost. Plus, I think my dad might have gone thru the spindle 35 years ago. It needed help. I took the bearing number and grease seal numbers from the CC book to Napa. The bearings were correct, but the seal was too small in diameter and just dropped into the spindle housing. On an OCC thread (now in the archives), I found a thread about this problem (I googled IH 473 428 R91 and it came up with our OCC archived thread). Ordered the NAPA 10034 seal (mentioned in the archived thread) and it worked. Didn't especially like the design, but it was correct in the dimensions.
Since I don't have a welder to tack the bolts to the belt shields on, I found some "flat nuts" to hold the 1/4-20 bolts to the deck while I put the shields on and tightened the nylok nuts that I planned to use on them. Here are some pics:
