Default Got my 86

I posted a few weeks ago that my mother in law was giving me my first Cub, a CC 86. Went and got it last Tues., hauled it home in my livestock trailer.

Back story... it was given to MIL and FIL when they moved to their house at Buckeye Lake as a back up mower by a former neighbor, about 12 yrs. ago. It didn't run well, when they could get it started. The neighbor took the head off and said the exhaust valve was bad but couldn't find the right one for it. The head and piston top is all carboned up. It's been sitting in their barn on concrete for the last 10 yrs. at least according to the MIL.

Tires look OK, still holding air like a champ, it's got surface rust and is dirty and everything is stiff from sitting. the motor turns and isn't locked up. Has a mower deck, haven't measured it yet, and no other accessories that I can see. Seat is perfect, not a mark or tear on it, decals look good. Goes into all gears, rolls easily. I want a worker so will try to get it running, change oil in engine and rear end, clean it up. Want to keep it original as I understand it is somewhat of a rare bird. I plan a restoration at some point in the future. Will need lots of help from you guys!

Will get some pics to post this weekend.

Sounds like a nice find. Yep, the 86's are a lower production model. Number five on the list.

Cool deal. I have a 86 as well with no accessories and a 42 inch deck. Man that thing is surprisingly strong and I have enjoyed working it so far. Have fun with it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
